37 acres donated on December 18, 2007.
Conservation Values protected:
- Agricultural Open Space: Since 2000, the landowners have been harvesting heartleaf arnica from the forest. Just the flowers are collected as this enhances future plant growth and makes production sustainable. The flowers are processed into salve and tincture and sold. Although this business is not the same as the previous owner’s agricultural operation, conserving this property protects another segment of Grand County’s agricultural history.
- Scenic Open Space: This scenic property is located just off County Road 50, a popular access road to Arapaho National Forest for camping and hiking. Another conservation easement held by Colorado Headwaters Land Trust is located nearby.
- Wildlife Habitat: The conservation easement on this property protects the wildlife corridors for wild game to move between the forested areas of higher elevations to the west and north and lower forested areas and drainages.
